La France Profonde...
Literally translated from French, La France Profonde means ‘deep’ France. The term refers to areas of rural France, away from Paris and the large cities, where the traditional aspects of French village life and rural agricultural culture continue to exist; where church bells still peal on the hour and life happens at a much easier pace.
Moulismes is a small village in mid-west France in the Vienne department; 10 minutes' drive from the medieval town of Montmorillon and 40 minutes’ drive south of Poitiers. Poitiers' train station is an hour and forty five minutes south-west of Paris by the TGV – the very fast train. Poitiers is on the train lines to both Bordeaux and La Rochelle, making staying with Marita in Moulismes an ideal addition to your French or European adventure.
After a more than 40 year career as a health professional, Marita moved from Australia to France and her 160-year-old traditional ‘maison de maitre’ home in 2023. The two-storey home with extensive gardens has lots of original features, along with the additional comforts Marita has been working on over the past 2 years, so that she can share this rural idyll with guests.
