"It was such a relief to land on you and not have to think for a while! And although we said to you that we would be happy to simply sit in your lovely garden and read our books for the week, we thoroughly enjoyed the day excursions you took us on. Not too noisy, not too busy, but instead relaxing and interesting.
Loved the little market in Montmorillon - the cutest town, with cobblestones and little shops where we found some treasures and delicious local delicacies to take back for dinner. It was fun too to see how you knew every second person that we passed - in the few years that you have been there you have really become a ‘local’. That’s impressive!
The cathedral at Saint-Savin was so beautiful. Cool and intricately decorated with most unusual patterns. Lovely to see the group of school children there, being taught about their local heritage. We had fun trying to follow the teacher in French, with limited success haha.
On the last day you took us for lunch at the most charming restaurant on a river, heaven knows where! A short drive from your house, and in beautiful restful surroundings. After eating our fill (with a decent bottle of local wine, of course,) we lay back on the banks of the river under a shady tree and had a ‘nanna nap’. Heaven!
The trip was our first introduction to the French countryside. It’s so, so different to busy Paris, isn’t it. So much nicer! And your house is a credit to your hard work. You’ve kept all the traditional features, and modernised the important bits like comfy beds, bathroom and kitchen. Thank goodness for wifi too!

"A train ride from Paris to Poitiers and a short drive to Moulismes. Had a wonderful time with Marita’s generous hosting in her beautiful home. Breakfast each day in the sunny, walled French-provincial garden - so pretty. Spacious rooms with authentic French-decor and modern amenities. Loved the nearby markets in Montmorillon where we grazed on cheese (lots of fromage), oysters and other sumptuous local produce. Marita generously took us to nearby villages which were so pretty and interesting. Picnics by the river, wine at sunset - great company. Definitely worth a visit."
